The Handset Archive is an independent English-language educational site about the relationship among communication objects, network architecture and subscriber identity.
What we publish
Long-form historical chapters, a selective timeline and technical explainers. The project focuses on meaningful transitions: turning speech into an electrical signal, scaling connections through exchanges, making mobility cellular, separating identity with the SIM and transforming the phone into a software platform.
How we handle “firsts”
Telephone history includes contested invention, parallel development and multiple valid milestones. A laboratory result, patent, public call, commercial launch and mass adoption answer different questions. We state which kind of milestone we mean and avoid reducing the entire field to one heroic moment.
What this site is not
It is not a museum, manufacturer, network operator, retailer or repair service. It does not invent a company address, staff biographies or a contact form. The trademarks and products discussed belong to their respective holders and are used for historical identification.
Independence
The site contains no advertising, affiliate links, analytics or sponsored placement. Its photographs come from Wikimedia Commons with the creator and licence shown beside the image and again on the sources page.
